Thamel Shifts to 24/7 Operations from April 13th

Starting April 13, Kathmandu’s bustling tourist hub, Thamel, is set to transition into a 24-hour operational zone. The Thamel Tourism Development Council has announced the expansion of business hours, encompassing both Thamel and Durbar Marga areas, coinciding with the Nepali New Year 2081. Council Chairperson Bhabiswor Sharma assures that thorough preparations have been undertaken to facilitate this transition seamlessly, with the District Administration Office, Kathmandu, taking charge of security and overall management. Assistant Chief District Officer Hari Prasad Sharma emphasizes the implementation of security measures to uphold the newly declared round-the-clock business hours. Safety protocols, formulated in collaboration with stakeholders, will govern operations, ensuring a secure environment for visitors and businesses alike. All facets of Thamel’s vibrant tourism scene, from markets to entertainment venues, are poised to remain accessible throughout the night. However, adherence to established standards is paramount, with businesses failing to comply facing closure from April 14 onward.
